Kathryne (Kate) M. Morris is a co-founding member of the firm and acts as the firm’s Chief Privacy Officer.

Emerging and mature companies and firms across many industries rely on Kate for pragmatic privacy and data protection advice in connection with their privacy-by-design, information governance and compliance initiatives, including in e-commerce and outsourcing transactions, and in mergers and acquisitions where technology, privacy and data protection issues are critical.  Kate is triple certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals as a Certified Information Privacy Professional —United States (CIPP/US) and Europe (CIPP/E), and a certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).

With expertise in providing counsel on global privacy laws and data security, Kate helps clients not only assess the privacy impacts of their operations, including their decisions to outsource, but also to manage the associated privacy and information security risks. In this regard, Kate assists with privacy impact assessments, procurement and due diligence, and otherwise supports business deals by structuring, negotiating, drafting and closing a wide variety of commercial transactions involving technology, the Internet and intellectual property (e.g. privacy policies, terms of use, end user license agreements for websites and mobile applications, and licensing and services agreements).

In addition to her privacy and technology transactions practice, Kate has significant experience in handling complex commercial disputes, including disputes over software licensing, fraud, breaches of commercial contracts and covenants not to compete, among other issues and claims.

Kate is a director on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Bar Association (DBA), the DBA Community Service Fund, and the Dallas Women Lawyers Association.  She is an advocate and volunteer for the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, and in particular, the Justice Forever Fund (formerly known DVAP Endowment). Kate also serves on the Cary Council of the Southwestern Medical Foundation. In addition, she is a frequent speaker and writer on technology issues related to evolving privacy and data protection laws, international data transfers, electronic discovery, document retention and preservation, social media, and legal ethics.
